Today I made my first attack animation, Jab1. In my design doc I had planned for there to be a Jab2 as well, similar to one of Ryu’s punches. I’ll probably still do it, but I also kind of like the idea of just having Jab1 be similar to Ganondorf’s in the Smash Bros. games. In those games he only has one jab, but it’s a fast and relatively strong “get off me” move.
It makes a lot of sense in Ganondforf’s kit, though, as he doesn’t really have any other ways to combat people who are all over him. Even then it’s not going to save him from most pressure, but it’s still a really nice feeling move.
I’ll think about it while putting Jab1 into the game and getting it completely working, which will take a bit of time. In addition to getting the animation in (easy) and the state coded (pretty easy), I have to finalize hitlag, hitstun, and knockback (not quite so easy). I have the ground work for those last three laid out, but they’re not completely implemented. If I’m feeling really ambitious, I’ll also get multiplayer working, but we’ll see.
